On Sunday, February 19, 2017 at 2:00 pm, AHS Member Bob Smith will explain the beginnings of the Albuquerque North Valley Matthew Dairy in the 1890s and its evolution over time.
The Matthew Dairy, formed by James Matthew in 1894, was located where Matthew Avenue is now between Rio Grande Blvd and 12th street. After his death in 1931, it was acquired by the Price family of El Paso and became Valley Gold Dairy. Bob will also have some new photos and information on the Bezemek Dairy.
The program will be held at the Albuquerque Museum in Old Town. Parking is free in the lot south of the Museum. Admission to the Museum and the AHS program is also free.
Bob Smith was a history major at ENMU and UNM in 1968-70, where he enrolled after four years in the Air Force, following graduation from high school in Galesburg, Illinois in 1963. Bob never completed his degree, but now that he is a retiree with time on his hands, has begun a new career as an amateur historian.
