Edmund G. Ross: A Profile in Courage

EDMUND G. ROSS: A PROFILE IN COURAGEOn Sunday, January 19, 2014 at 2:00pm, Richard Ruddy will speak on Edmund G. Ross who was the territorial governor of NM from 1885-1889 and lived the last third of his adult life in Albuquerque and NM. He is buried at Fairview Cemetery on south Yale. Ross’ career reads like an epic adventure. He was a life long journalist and one of four men who founded the Atchinson, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad; he was a Civil War officer and hero; a US senator from Kansas where he gained national attention for his vote to acquit President Andrew Johnson at his 1868 impeachment trial.

Speaker Richard Ruddy, is a UNM graduate, VietNam veteran, film producer and had a 30 year career as a commercial photographer in Albuquerque. A student of local & state history, Ruddy is a member of the ABQ Historical Society, Historical Society of NM, and board member of Historic Albuquerque, Inc. Ruddy will sign copies of his new book: Edmund G. Ross: Soldier, Senator Abolitionist.
